The USS Pasadena (SSN-75) is a Los Angeles class submarine and the third ship of the United States Navy named after Pasadena (California). During its deployment, the Pasadena participated in several exercises with the Royal Navies of Saudi Arabia, Oman and Australia, and was the first United States nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) to carry out exercises with the Indian Navy in the MALABAR Naval Exercise. The USS Pasadena is equipped with a range of advanced defense systems that provide weapon control and sensors to protect it from potential threats. These include Raytheon's Mk1 and Mk2 self-defense systems which are installed on aircraft carriers and large deck amphibians.
Additionally, it has been fitted with a hybrid electric propulsion system developed by General Atomics and DRS Technologies which could be mounted on Burke-class destroyers. Furthermore, it has been equipped with Raytheon Netcentric Systems' CEC which is used on Ticos and Burkes as well as Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. The USS Pasadena also has an electromagnetic railgun developed by ONR in collaboration with Naval Research Laboratory which has successfully conducted more than 1000 firing tests. Moreover, it has been fitted with Total Ship Computing Environment (TSCE) network developed by Raytheon for DDG-1000 for controlling all ship systems. This includes electrical load modules for powering new systems such as railguns, lasers and radars as well as energy storage modules integrated on board. The restart of the Burke class is expected to lead to the introduction of a Flight III ship that will begin with the DDG-122, the first ship equipped with the AMDR.
The most recent baseline incorporates elements of the Total Ship Computing Environment (TSCE), a network that the company developed for the DDG-1000 for the control of all ship systems. The work involves the development of electrical load modules for use in “pulse-forming networks” to power new systems, such as railguns, lasers and radars, as well as R&D on approaches to energy storage on board and integration of modules on board the ship. In conclusion, the USS Pasadena is equipped with a range of advanced defense systems that provide weapon control and sensors to protect it from potential threats. These include Raytheon's Mk1 and Mk2 self-defense systems, a hybrid electric propulsion system developed by General Atomics and DRS Technologies, Raytheon Netcentric Systems' CEC, an electromagnetic railgun developed by ONR in collaboration with Naval Research Laboratory, and Total Ship Computing Environment (TSCE) network developed by Raytheon for DDG-1000.
